How do you broadcast your security posture? Lots of signs and words, but your shutter controls are protected by a padlock costing £17, designed for weather protection, with an 8mm shackle and four whole standard pins. And it’s front-centre on your business.
Red rag -> bull.
Now this may still have a key switch behind it, or it may equally be a simple push button control. Regardless, as a criminal, you have invited me to find out.
I might do that by watching you from the nearby bus stop or I might come along, pop that lock off and have a look-see. One of these also invites an opportunistic attack on your staff, if the conditions are right.
“Security warning” indeed.
For the record, I would be protecting this with a Squire SS65CS or similar (pictured). If you can get a closed shackle over it, do it. You’re protecting the controls for thousands of pounds of security product, but you’re also telegraphing to potential criminals something beyond the fine words of all those signs. You’re not just telling me, you’re showing me that you mean business.
